“We reach!” – BREEF TTW 18 Commences
After weeks of anticipation, educators hailing from all around The Bahamas have finally arrived in San Salvador at The College of The Bahamas Gerace Research Centre for BREEF’s 18th annual Teacher Training Workshop (TTW).
Once aboard the Research Centre’s blue, custom crafted, flatbed truck, the group hurdled down the meandering road gazing at a spectacular view of The Bahamas back in time.
After lunch, TTW 18 hit the ground running with orientation presentations, surprise quizzes, hands on activities and an afternoon snorkel. Participants donned their snorkel gear on the beach atop a natural sand dune just a few steps away from the Research Centre. The more experienced group of swimmers aimed for the horizon, while excitement and apprehension butterflied among the educators on the sand who have never snorkeled before, let alone ventured more than waist deep in the ocean. However, by the end of the snorkel session, each participant trudged out of the water covered in sand and beaming with a newly found confidence in their snorkeling skills while they exchanged fish stories of what they saw underwater.
As the adventure packed day of meeting new people and trying new things in a remote and new location finally came to a close, participants reflected on how amazing their experience has been so far and how excited they were to find out what other surprises BREEF’s Teacher Training Workshop had waiting in the wings for them.
