Summer Workshop 2016
Our summer teacher training workshop (TTW) has become the flagship teacher education course for marine conservation in the country. Each year, BREEF invites K-12 teachers from across our islands to participate in a residential, field-study course at the Gerace Research Center. This week-long, interdisciplinary course places emphasis on modelling experiential learning to increase student achievement and promoting sustainable development through education Workshop sessions include classroom lectures, engaging hands-on activities and outdoor field studies. Teachers are also provided with take-home multimedia educational resources to enhance the learning experience for their students.
Educators are selected across the range of public and private, primary and secondary schools, with preference given to those whose content areas include topics in marine conservation, fisheries and sustainable development.

Participants: approx. 25 educators from around the country
Course Credit: 60 hours of Professional Development Units
Teacher Donation: $50 commitment fee for selected participants
Our summer workshop costs us $2000 per teacher. We are grateful for the generous support of individual and business sponsors who share our vision for strengthening our education system by investing our nation’s teachers. To date approximately 450 educators have benefited from training at our summer workshops.
