The centrepiece sculpture “Ocean Atlas” is the largest underwater sculpture in the world and was created by internationally-renowned artist, Jason deCaires Taylor.
The project includes sculptures by award-winning Bahamian artists Willicey Tynes and Andret John . Additional artificial reef structures from the Reef Ball Foundation form the backbone of a number of snorkel trails at the site.
BREEF received seed funding for phase I of the Coral Reef Sculpture Garden from the United Nations Global Environment Facility Small Grants Programme, and generous support from many other donors who sponsored sculptures and reef balls.
Please contact BREEF for more information on sponsorship opportunities.
The project builds on BREEF’s work in marine conservation over the past two decades to address threats faced by our fragile coral reefs such as climate change, pollution, overfishing, invasive species and habitat destruction.
The project recognises BREEF founder Sir Nicholas Nuttall and draws attention to the international and local challenges of taking care of our oceans.
