BESS Alumna Denee Rankine Participates in Conch Research Expedition
At the very beginning of June 2016, I was given the opportunity to travel along the islands of Andros and Bimini, on board the Coral Reef II. The purpose of the trip was to survey conch populations in the Northwestern Bahamas, to see whether populations were diminishing, rising or if they remained the same. During our expedition, we were able to survey over ninety kilometers of open ocean. We accounted for a total of 1,238 adults and 3,941 sub adults and juveniles. All in all, the experience was both informing and enjoyable. I’d like to thank Mr. Andy Kough , SHEDD Aquarium and BREEF for the experience of a lifetime.
