BREEF’s New Providence Sea Camp!
BREEF’s Nassau Summer Sea Camp 2016 was an amazing whirlwind of field trips and fun learning in the sun! Under the theme ‘Storm Watchers’, Sea Campers were introduced to the all of the elements that create storms, how the very nature of our Bahamian islands protect us from storms and how families can prepare themselves when a storm is on the way. From trips to the Met Office, Bonefish Pond National Park and snorkeling everyday, morning lessons on weather, fish ID and hurricane preparedness were brought to life. Sea Campers were able to see for themselves how coral reefs and mangrove creeks provide protection for our islands and how important it is that we ensure they stay healthy. With Nassau Sea Camp being based at Ardastra Gardens, Sea Campers received a grand tour of the facility and also were given behind the scenes insight on how Ardastra prepares their animals for hurricanes. The week ended with a breathtaking snorkel in the ocean with Stuart Coves to witness the majesty of a Bahamian coral reef and to see sharks in their natural habitat, and an interactive tour of Atlantis’ aquarium to show off their fish ID skills. Sea Camp sure made waves this summer! See you next year!
